Daily Tips :
  • Practice good posture (especially during the third trimester)

  • Avoid exposure to chemicals: herbicides, pesticides and paint.
  • Aim to do at least 30 minutes of moderate activity on most days of the week.
  • Avoid alcohol, raw fish, fish high in mercury, soft cheeses.
  • Eat high-fiber foods and drink plenty of water to avoid constipation.
  • Talk to your health care provider before taking any supplements.
  • Eat foods rich in folate, iron, calcium, and protein.

It is easy to understand why babies often have irritated bottoms. Picture the environment of a diaper; warmth, absence of light, and moisture all combined in an absorbent layer that is continuously rubbing against ultra-sensitive skin. Parents have to be aware that diapers do not create a natural atmosphere, and take certain precautions to care for baby’s tender bottom as much as possible.

  • Airflow is the best thing that can be done for babies bottom. Exposure to air is a key component to preventing and treating diaper rash.
  • Baby should have some time without a diaper on every day to increase air circulation and to have the opportunity to stretch their legs and hips without a diaper on.
  • Change wet diapers frequently, and change diapers immediately after every stool.
  • Baby’s diet is also very important. Pay attention to baby’s diet if he or she is eating solid foods.Nursing Mom’s should be aware of their diet as well. Sugar and acidic foods, including some fruits and vegetables, can irritate the skin upon contact. A stool that contains high levels of acidic foods will not take long to lead to a diaper rash when in contact with the skin.
  • Disposable wipes can feel harsh and often contain alcohol, which can be very irritating to the skin. Disposable wipes are also extremely wet, often leaving moisture on baby’s bottom. Using reusable diaper wipes and solution, remain soft on sensitive skin and allow you to have control over the amount of moisture that is used.
  • You may choose to use a lotion to cleanse and protect baby’s skin. Be aware that when sick, babies are more susceptible to getting diaper rash. Being aware can help parents be proactive and taking preventative measures.
  • When washing cloth diapers and baby’s clothes, it is best to use a dye-free and perfume-free, gentle laundry detergent that has antiseptic and antibacterial properties.
